DRD Spotlight - Landsborough
SKATE NAME: Landsborough | NUMBER: 792 | SKATING SINCE: 2012/2013 I think?
Any advice for people thinking about getting involved with derby?
Do it, what have you got to lose? We’ve got everything you need to try it and all the help on hand. If it’s crossed your mind before, keep an eye out for when our new skater programme restarts!
Post-pandemic, what were you most looking forward to with getting back to training?
Seeing if I still remember how to derby! It’s been amazing getting back to weekly training, trying to remind my feet that they know what to do and slowly building up the contact and difficulty of the drills. I can’t wait until DRD are back to scrimming again!
What has helped to still feel connected to the league during lockdown?
Although training had stopped, there was still a lot going on behind the scenes, from monitoring and keeping on top of the WFTDA requirements to helping to completely renew our new skater programme – the league has still very much been on my mind throughout lockdown.
What do you do to relax?
Naps, I’m a gal that loves a nap! It doesn’t help that I have a chonky cat that also enjoys curling up for a wee sleep together.
Favourite thing about derby?
I love how every skater has their own style of play. It’s not common in sport to have an endless variety on the same positions and skills – you learn very quickly that there’s no correct or incorrect way, it’s all dependant on what works for you.
Favourite tv programme atm?
This is the perfect tv time of year for me. All things related to spooky season, then leading straight into the generic festive Hallmark movies … perfect!
How do you spend your spare time?
I love spending time outdoors or trying new things. Anything to do with being outside - exploring, hill walking, going on adventures and having a dip in the lochs, rivers and sea.
Who do you choose for next month's league spotlight and why?
For next month I choose a person who I love skating alongside, being benched by and just generally being around. A person who has faced more than a few hurdles in their derby career, but is still a person I could watch skate all day long. A truly wonderful human – it is of course our Ally-J.
