DRD Spotlight - Dropkick Bru's
Skate name: Dropkick Bru's | Number: 901 | Started skating: 2015
How did you hear about Roller Derby and the DRD?
I heard about Roller Derby at a Christmas Market in Cambridge where the Rollerbillies had had a cake and craft stall, found a taster session they were hosting and went along. When I moved back to Scotland I was searching for a team to move to and found Dundee then.
What position do you officiate in?
I tend to do a bit of all the non skating official (NSO) roles except jam timing. I don't really focus on one role over any of the others although my favourite at the moment is electronic penalty
Three words to describe derby to you?
Social, fun, different
Do you have any bench/Line up experience?
No I don't at the moment, I think benching would be fun to have a go at but I would be terrible at it - I can't watch a game and not officiate it!
What was your favourite subject at school?
Technological Studies - it had crosses with Physics, but looked at practical applications and forces more...I wish I had picked it up earlier and taken it further than Int 2 level.
What snack do you always hope to find in the bake sale?
Millionaires shortbread!
Favourite after party memory?
In Cologne last year a group of officials went out for dinner after the event then met with some of Roller Derby Iceland in a pub. Some of Roller Derby Iceland decided to demonstrate leg wrestling on the floor and then made a human pyramid to try and reach the roof, I seem to remember it getting to 4 or 5 layers high!!
Do you play any other sports?
No, I used to play hockey back at high school but it fell by the wayside when I went to college as there wasn't a team on campus.
Do you have any pets?
Nope sadly not, I would love to have a dog but currently my lifestyle wouldn't be fair to one. Maybe when I retire from Roller Derby and don't travel as much, so not for a while.
What is your ice cream flavour of choice?
Raspberry Ripple
Favourite tv program atm?
I don't watch a lot of TV but I do really enjoy any of the NCIS programs including LA and New Orleans spin-off.
Who do you choose for next month's DRD spotlight and why?
I would like to choose Pam (Sins n Needles) - she is a long-standing member of DRD and its great to see her trying new things with reffing, and for all the hard work that she put into newbie training when I first joined DRD.
