DRD Spotlight - Seaton
Skate name: Seaton | Number: 102 | Started skating: 2012
How did you hear about Roller Derby and the DRD?
I think I first seen about derby on a cupcake show on food network or something. It just seemed to be a selection of people which spoke to my emo kid heart.
I can remember discussing about which sports I wanted to join at the sports fair during my Freshers week at university and telling my flatmates that roller derby had been the only sport I'd ever really considered. On walking into the fair, I seen two skaters in kit and went to speak to them, impressed them by knowing what roller derby was and walking away with the sads as I couldn't skate until I was 18 (was 17 at the time). The week after my 18th birthday I rocked up to newbies and went from there!
How does derby impact the rest of your life?
I think it's massively helped in finding myself (boak.), in terms of understanding my body and taking pride in being a wee fat pie that can also be a legitimate athlete.
Finding my people in terms of the friends I have through roller derby has been completely life changing and I am forever grateful to the sport for that. Confidence wise it's also meant I'm a lot more comfortable speaking in front of people from coaching experience.
What do you do to relax?
I haven't had a heart rate below 100bpm in at least 10 years.
Any other hobbies outwith roller derby?
Nobody does. Sometimes I sit at home and think about how my joints hurt.
What position do you skate in?
I'm an offensive blocker, occasionally defensive but I tend to run away to help my jammer instead. One time I took a star pass and did an apex jump, people still talk about it in certain circles.
Do you have any tattoos?
I have two. A smiley ghost on my rib cage and a Jackalope (bunny with deer antlers to the non cryptozoologists) on my thigh, at the height my dog used to come (RIP).
Motivational quote?
Our game, on our terms! (I AM THAT VAIN)
Three words to describe derby to you?
Shitemare.
Support.
Spew.
Is there any podcast you love to listen to?
'Last podcast on the left' is my favourite for serial killer and spooky information!
If you could have any job in the world what would it be?
I'd like to do dogs hair dead nice before they went to dog shows.
Who do you choose for next month's DRD spotlight and why?
My co captain George (G-Wrecks) who consistently reminds me of why I do roller derby... while also making me question why I do roller derby.
