DRD Spotlight - Landsborough/Mayhem
Skate name: Landsborough/Mayhem | Number: 792 | Started skating: 2012
How did you start derby?
I have always skated, although it used to be on inlines! So when a family friend told me that DRD was a thing and that they had a taster session that same night, I had to go along and I've never looked back.
What position do you skate?
I'm a Jammer. I tried really hard to work on my blocking but it never really took!
What's the biggest challenge you've faced in your derby time?
I think the trickiest thing I've found has been my mental game! But my teamies have always been there with their feedback and positivity.
How does derby impact the rest of your life?
Derby gives me a focus and an outlet, both physically and mentally! It helps give me confidence and shows me if I work at something I will get better.
What do you do to relax on game day?
I like to keep my mind occupied so to not get to worked up and nervous on game days, so lots of chat about everything and anything and the occasional rubik's cube usually helps.
Three words that describe derby for you?
Invigorating, demanding and family.
Do you have any bench/line up experience?
I've been lucky enough to step in when a couple local teams have needed a wee hand in the odd game. Had the pleasure of being LUM for our Bonnie Colliders in their 2017/2018 season and I've recently been selected as LUM for the newly selected Power of Scotland squad, which I'm still crazy excited to be a part of!
Any other hobbies?
Can pals be hobbies? Love to fill most of my free time with my friends. Exploring, castleing and walking up hills!
Motivational quote?
Pretty much all the stuff we shout at each other during scrims and games!
"THIS IS YOU"
"Do the same, but better."
"Our game, our terms."
"Calm down and play Roller Derby"
What's your favourite animal?
I love elephants! They're so odd looking, but have such a family bond and are so empathetic. So relatable.
Favourite dessert?
Cake, brownies. Anything with chocolate really!
... and finally, who do you choose for next months DRD spotlight and why?
I of course choose my incredible pal, the best training partner I could ever ask for and the most amazing offence a jammer could ask for. SEATON. She has always given it her all, works tireless to make us all better and is just awesome in every way!
