NAME: Loeder (Lucia Gerritsen)

NUMBER: 306 How did you get involved with roller derby? I was convinced to go a fresh meat session from Rotterdam Roller Derby by one the girls from my dance class. It was exactly what was I was looking for; a physical team sport with a good social atmosphere. Tell us about your derby name and number? “Loeder” translated to “mean person” although it historically tends to be used to describe nasty women… My number is the first 3 numbers of my brother’s army ID, in that way I’ve always got him close. What is your skate gear of choice? Riedell Vixen skaters (still in store set-up) S1 helmet and my signature multi-coloured TSG pads. Before you discovered roller derby, were you involved in any other sports/exercise? If yes, how has derby impacted on this? I played rugby, row, kayak and had years for swing dancing lessons before joining derby. Derby took over completely since Although thanks to derby I started swimming a lot more for some much needed stretching after session and to improve my overall fitness. What is your position of choice? At the moment I’d like to improve my skating overall to grow into jamming in the future. Which teams have you skated with? Rotterdam Roller Derby for fresh meat. With Dundee Roller Derby I’ve benched for the Jutes of Hazard and skating for the time for the Press Gangsters. Do you have a pre/post-bout ritual? Drink lots as I just forget and it makes me wobbly when I don’t do that enough. How would you describe your derby playing style, do you have a signature move? Dead keen, nervous and excited all the time describes it best I think. What is your day job? How has your involvement in roller derby affected the way you live the rest of your life? I am qualified teacher and am currently working as a librarian. Favourite motivational quote? “Everyone can do everything for 30 seconds and then 30 seconds more!”
