Skater of the Month - Breezy Does It

NAME: Breezy Does It NUMBER: 289 How did you get involved with roller derby? I was invited to fresh meat with Fair City Rollers by a friend. After the taster session I went out to buy myself some kit. I passed my mins and skated my first game with them before transferring to Dundee Roller Girls.

Tell us about your derby name and number? Breezy had been a nickname I was given as a rainbow leader and as much as I protested it stuck. I decided to keep it and my derby name evolved from there. 289 is the date I joined DRG 28th of September What is your skate gear of choice? My kit is all pretty old these days and in need of replacement. My skates are riedell with juke wheels and gumball toestops, 187 pads and a shadow helmet. Before you discovered roller derby, were you involved in any other sports/exercise? If yes, how has derby impacted on this? I have always been into sport, I played basketball through high school and volleyball through uni. I love competitive sports and being part of a team. What is your position of choice? I was always a blocker, choosing the wrecking ball slot. Although since coming back after maternity I gave been focusing more on my jamming. Which teams have you skated with? I have skated for Fair City Rollers (fear maidens), Dundee Roller Girls - Silvery Tayzers and Bonnie Collidersand, Home teams - Press Gangsters and Jukes of Hazzard as well as a few mixed teams Do you have a pre/post-bout ritual? I don't really have a ritual, I usually end up running around mad sorting the kids What is your day job? How has your involvement in roller derby affected the way you live the rest of your life? I am a Sports Coach and mum of 2, so life is always busy. For me roller derby is my 'me time' Favourite motivational quote? My favourite quote is 'what's for you won't go passed you' Who do you choose as next month’s Skater of the month? I nominate Jill Antonic, Jill taught me most of what I know as one of our coaches in FCR. She's dedicated to the whole league and bakes the best cakes!!
