Skater of the Month - Quadrillion

NAME Quadrillion

NUMBER 15 What is your position of choice? Which teams have you skated with?

I skate as a referee and one of the pleasures of that is you get to work with different crews, made up of people from many different leagues, both on skates and off. Scottish refs are a really great bunch of people but of course, there is nothing like an all DRG crew! We are extremely fortunate to have a fair few people interested in being officials. I tend to outside pack referee most often but as my skate skills improve am trying to master all the positions on a ref crew. And NSO positions as well although I think I will pass on scoreboard operator. I have a love /hate relationship with technology - I love it but it dumps me in it at all the most stressful times!

What is your skate gear of choice?

I still use the Riedell skates with a probe plate that I bought as a newbie but now skate on Radar Diamonds. I love these narrow wheels although I am not so sure they suit the sports court we now practice on some of the time, so I guess it is time to experiment again. The rest of my gear hasn’t changed.

Before you discovered roller derby, were you involved in any other sports/exercise? If yes, how has derby impacted on this?

Before I discovered roller derby, my free time was generally spent in boat related activities. My partner and I have a boat which is ashore in the winter so there’s no conflict but in the summer, we like to take advantage of the weather so I can make fewer commitments for weekend games. We also go away for a spell so derby suffers. On the plus side, it does improve my upper body strength which isn’t so good.

Who do you choose as next month’s Skater of the month?

This was the most difficult question to answer with so many to choose from. I am going for one of our newest skaters, Hollie who has just started to scrim. She is brave, has a brilliant attitude and is going to be an awesome league member.
