Skater of the Month - Khilleesi

NAME : Khilleesi

NUMBER : 13

How did you get involved with roller derby?

My boyfriend (Optimus Grime) brought me to watch a DRG home team game in the summer and by October I had my own skates and kit. I started at Mean City Roller Derby and haven’t looked back!

Tell us about your derby name and number?

A fellow skater at Mean City started calling me khaleesi “game of thrones character” because of my long blonde hair, it all started from that. Since I had a love for Game of Thrones I edited the name to be Khill – eesi as in “kill easy” on track as I wanted to sound fierce. Queen of dragons.

What is your skate gear of choice?

S1 Gold Helmet

AR1 gold and black Antiks with an avenger plate

Roll line ice wheels

Scab knee and elbow pads

Before you discovered roller derby were you involved in any other sports/exercise, and if yes how has derby impacted on this?

I used to swim, run and go to the gym but derby has taken over!

What is your position of choice?

I enjoy jamming when I can! But being pivot is slowly starting to become my number one position.

Which teams have you skated with?

I've been in a few teams before a came to DRG: firstly I passed my mins with Mean City Roller derby in Glasgow. I then moved to New Town Roller Girls as they were very low in numbers for Champs games and it was a pleasure to skate with them. I moved to Dundee Roller Girls and it was the best decision I've made. The girls are very supportive and the training is always on point!

Do you have a pre/post-bout ritual?

Big breakfast for the day ahead, Make up/face-paint on, a bottle of orange Lucozade, lots of water and waiting to pee until the last moment before the game starts!

How would you describe your derby playing style, do you have a signature move?

Bouncy and vocal.

Signature move yet to be known.

What is your day job? How has your involvement in roller derby affected the way you live the rest of your life?

Currently an Animal Care student but derby does take over a lot of my time, I do enjoy it thought.

Favourite motivational quote?

“Wing it” - Jenni Farquharson (yes, myself.)

Who do you choose as next month’s Skater of the Month?

Hubs! She has been on fire the past few months watching her block and jam her heart out for the Tayzers!!
